Both missing drivers and files have one thing in common: They get lost when you least expect it. Sometimes it is not your fault. For example, a hardware driver can go down the wrong path if your computer crashes right after you download new software--even from a trusted source. Driver incompatibility could confuse the registry. A file can lose its way if you forgot to save it. There are some steps you can take to recover what you have lost and reel in those restless drivers and files back where they belong.
Recover Lost Drivers
Click the "Start" button, click "All Programs" and then click "Windows Update."
Click "Check for updates," and if any updates are available, click "View available updates."
Check the updates you want to install and then click "Install updates." Type in your administrator password or confirmation, if prompted. If there are no updates for your device driver, install a compatible driver manually in Step 4.
Click the "Start" button, click "Control Panel" and then click "System and Security."
Click "Device Manager." Type in your administrator password or confirmation if prompted.
Double click the device you want to update found under the list of hardware categories.
Click the Driver tab and then click "Update Driver." (Type in your administrator password or confirmation, if prompted.) If you still experience problems, check to see if your device is compatible with Windows 10.
